Where Afghan heritage meets artisan excellence
Farah Asghari grew up in the heart of North West London, where food from every corner of the world was never far away. From Punjabi kitchens to Lebanese bakeries to Persian sweet shops — Farah grew up tasting, learning, and falling in love with the art of food.
After years in London, life took her to Bournemouth, and eventually to Peterborough, where she married and made her home. But through every move, one thing never left her: a deep, abiding love for the flavours of Afghanistan — the delicacies she grew up celebrating with her family at Eid, at weddings, at every gathering that called for something truly special.
Farah founded ASAL MAISON — meaning "Honey House" — from a simple but powerful belief: that Afghan desserts deserve a place at the table of the world's great culinary traditions. Not hidden away, but celebrated. Not just for Afghans, but for everyone.
We honour traditional Afghan recipes, using time-tested methods and the finest natural ingredients. No shortcuts, no compromises.
Every pastry that leaves our kitchen must meet our exacting standards. We believe in quality over quantity, craftsmanship over mass production.
We're proud to be part of Peterborough's vibrant community, sharing Afghan culture through the universal language of sweet treats.
In an age of mass production, we choose a different path. Every cream roll is hand-piped, every gosh-e-fil is hand-stretched, every shirni latifi is meticulously shaped with the care and precision of a true artisan.
We source the finest cardamom, saffron, and pistachios — ingredients that have been the hallmark of Afghan dessert-making for centuries. Our cream is whipped fresh, our dough is rested and layered by hand, and our sweets are dusted with the same love that our ancestors put into their craft.
This is not just baking. This is preserving a legacy.
